Group Rescue Practice for paddlers in touring and sea kayaks.
Saturday 29th March, 0915 hrs at the clubhouse for those needing boats, or 1000 hrs at the get-in if you have all your own kit. An easy landmark for our get-in is the Maltsters pub at Ranworth, or use Google maps; Ranworth Visitor Centre, or what3words ///gratuity.clockwork.balloons
This is an early season opportunity to practice a skill that we don't often need on the sheltered waters of the Broads. It's not intended to be a teaching session so much as a refresher for those who have done long kayak rescues before and want to update. Conditions may well be chilly and the water will be cold, we will keep ourselves moving as necessary with some paddling and towing etc. We will take account of conditions on the day and the priority will be to keep ourselves safe. It's not essential that everyone should get in the water and the emphasis will be on the rescues, not on capsize technique.
We're going to the pleasant Malthouse Broad, it's reasonably sheltered from the wind, has easy launching and convenient free parking. There are public toilets nearby. We can get off the water and back to cars directly if we get too cold and anyway not later than 1500 hrs.
What to bring? Please make sure you have warm clothing for on the water and either a drysuit or good two-piece, plus suitable headwear for getting wet. Dry clothes to change into afterwards, in case you get wet. Snacks for on the water, food and a hot drink. A touring or sea kayak and your normal kit for a day trip.
On sign-up please let me know if you will need a club boat and kit, or if you have all your own kit and intend to meet at the get-in. Please also let me know if you have space to help with transport from the clubhouse.
If you have any questions please sign up and include a contact so I can help.
Thanks, Pete Ball
